I know a lot of you will be reluctant readers of this post, anything with the letters SEO, (Search Engine Optimisation), together seems to fill people with dread!

So why are people worried about SEO? Because it takes to much time to learn and implement yourself? Because it can be expensive and might not work.

If you’re a small business owner, (or a marketing manager for a bigger company), you will have heard from everyone that you should learn about SEO and prepare an online strategy for your business.

You will be aware of the importance of having website but it takes extra work for it it to appear well in web search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.

You may find that despite your best efforts your website is never optimised enough, it is still hard to find, below your competitors and the list of jobs, tips and advice are confusing and never ending.

You sit and think about the amount of time it will take to learn all the “SEO stuff”. Plus, considering you have heard about how search engine optimisation takes a lot of time to implement as well, and the techniques complex and always changes, you feel like giving up and going networking instead, (oh the humanity..)

Let’s take a look at a few aspects of SEO that make newcomers hesitant about embracing and using it:

1. Its not Magic

If you are a firm believer that SEO can be like a magic potion for immediate online success and profit then the chances are you will end up feeling like you have wasted time and money.

SEO is something which takes a lot of time and effort, it takes patience to know that it’s not just going to happen over night and you have to work at it often to be able to see frequent changes.

Those new to SEO will pour a lot of time and money into it and are often frustrated by the lack of results. This makes many business owners reluctant to begin an SEO campaign and to stick it out for the long haul.

The results will eventually come if the strategy is done right. They just won’t be immediate.

SEO is an invaluable strategy for one’s business and should not be ignored. Be patient and look for logical processes, not magic

2. It is time heavy

Everyone who is new to SEO thinks that this kind of online marketing is a long, complicated process that includes far too many parts. Whilst this true and there are so many factors to consider when optimising your website, they don’t all need to be done at the same time, be patient, take advice, delegate and take your time

3 – You get traffic but not customers

One of the widely talked about aspects of SEO is keywords. Keyword research and targeting is a common tactic that should be immediately initiated when you start up a new campaign. If you’re doing this on your own, you may run into the vast number of relevant keywords and feel a bit overwhelmed with the possibilities. If you pick the wrong ones, you may get plenty more visitors to your site, but struggle to get them to buy from you.

Thats enough on some reasons as to why people are scared of SEO, we don’t want to make things worse so instead we are going to look at positive vibes!

Remember SEO takes time, hard work, good technical knowledge a to see results – don’t be hard on yourself when changes don’t happen over night and don’t be shy in terms of taking advice and delegating.
