3) Your SEO Strategy

When developing an SEO strategy you first need to build one but you need to understand why you want it’s the foundation for everything you want to achieve, if you put in the effort you’re going to get the results you want, as for when you should start building the strategy, you should do it straight away, you should also make changes (tweak) every 3-6 months depending on how competitive your industry is if you have a high competition then we recommend that you make adjustments every 3 months, if you’re in a lower competitive industry then we recommend 6 months

You first need to define your business and normally there are 2 categories we need to focus on one being website type and the other being locations, these 2 characters will determine what keywords you can target.

There are 3 website types business, E-Commerce and Content, Business would cover a more Service / Product focussed business like Accountants, plumbers or technicians, E-Commerce would cover websites that sell products through their website for example Amazon, Walmart or ASOS, Content would cover media-based websites like news websites, blogs, YouTube.

The next category is location types and there are 3 types of locations Local, National and International, Local represents websites that provide services or products in a specific location usually to people where the company is based like plumbers, restaurants or hairdressers, National is very similar to local where similar companies are branching out to a wider area usually providing services to the country the company is based in and the last one is International which means they provide products and services to multiple country’s, companies like Netflix, Apple or Facebook.

Now, we need to think about where to focus on how to drive more traffic. First, you’ll need products and services, make a list of every product or service you offer to your customers. how can it be categorised? Next, ask your colleagues.

The next step is if you have a support team or colleagues who work with customers, for example, ask them what kind of questions our customers are asking that’s going to help you at the top of the funnel to identify those questions that people start with. Also, ask them how their customers reference the products and services and what language they use when they’re asking to buy a product or service.

Competitors is the next step because what you might find is you’ll go through steps one and step two that identify a big long list of keywords that you’ll want to qualify later. But there just might be one or two that you’ve just forgotten. Or not realise that your customers ask this type of question, or your customers are asked for your products and services using this type of language. So by reviewing your competitors you can see what kind of keywords they ranking for, what are they optimising for, and how are they turning the products and services that you both share?

In turn, all this will make your own website’s SEO a lot more viable and crawl it much more efficiently.

To conclude I will explain what you’ll need to focus on next and we’ll start with getting your keywords correct, the type of business you are and the location of your business will influence what words you use to get those customers you want to attract, the next focus would be to get your website structure, this is where you want to focus on how you’re going to house the previously mentioned keywords, next is your competitors, we encourage you to analyse your competitors, see what keywords they use and what content they have on their website that relates to the keywords and finally you want to create SEO content and you can do this by looking at the results of your current strategy and once you have new content and this allows you to tweak your keywords to re-crawl your page on google, all of these focus points will be further explained in future blog posts.
