5) How SEO Works On Google

Google is a very complex website that is constantly evolving and learning using complex algorithms and if you’re reading this you likely want to know how to get started in SEO, firstly you need to understand how Google ranks websites through something called Crawling & Indexing.

Crawling & Indexing works by using something called the Google Bot which scans websites to create a well-developed library of websites that are relevant to what you search, the relevant things go to the top and this is what you see when you search, Google puts these websites to the top because they match the words you’ve searched for somewhere on the site but it’s more complex than that for e.g. your location, upload date can influence the results, like a rapidly developing new story would give you the latest because that information is usually more accurate, keywords, links, location and upload date are the key components to Crawling & Indexing and the Google Bot scans for these key components and indexes it respectively, you must know and keep in mind that the Google Bot doesn’t do this constantly so if you’ve just created a new website or have just updated your current website you’ll need to give the Bot time to index it because this can take weeks every time something new is added, the Google Bot has a set time and date that it’ll arrive on your website this is called a Crawl Schedule or Crawl Budget.

Adding new content to your website frequently will increase your chances of getting the Google Bot to visit more frequently, you need to make sure that the Google Bot knows which pages you want it to crawl and which ones you don’t for e.g. you’d make sure that the bot doesn’t crawl a thank you page because that meant for people who have purchased an item or service and this isn’t useful to anyone when searching and would lead to a bad user experience.

Make sure you don’t have any duplicated content because this can lead to Google considering your website as a low-value SEO so make sure that you have none of this.

Internal Linking

Internal linking is when you link one page of your website to another page on your website. This can take many, many forms. It can be in your menu, for example, you have an explore menu. Within your actual copy, copy, you may have words that link through to other pages. It may be in footers, it may be via images, and any method of a user or search engine. Being able to navigate from one page to another is called an internal link. And what does it do? It connects pages so that we as users and Google bot can find content throughout your website. It can be led through a journey and see all of the content you want them to see the importance? Well, it’s very important. It enables Google bot and US users to discover all of the content but just from an SEO point of view, if you want Google bot to find all the content on your page, it will use the XML sitemap to find content. But internal linking is really important. It helps to find user journeys and flows and pass through SEO value, which we’ll touch upon in a moment. And when to use it. You want to use it all the time. For every page on your website. You want to make sure it has a link from another page on the website so that Google and users can follow links on your site and get all the content you need to get to. There’s another reason why internal linking is so great for SEO. It’s not just so that Google can find all the content you have on your website so that you can pass SEO value from one page to another, which is important when you have certain pages that you want to rank well.
